How to buy event tickets with USSD in Ghana (*928*24#)
A step-by-step guide to buying Edwadzi event tickets with USSD on any Ghanaian phone. No app, no internet, mobile money only.
By Edwadzi EditorialUpdated
Not every event guest in Ghana has a smartphone with data. Edwadzi supports ticket purchases entirely through USSD, so anyone with a basic phone and mobile money can buy a ticket without downloading an app or opening a browser.
Before you start
You need three things:
- The event's code (a short number the organizer publishes on posters, flyers, and WhatsApp).
- A Ghana mobile money account with enough balance to cover the ticket price.
- A phone that can dial USSD codes (any GSM handset works).
The dial string
The Edwadzi USSD entry point is *928*24#. If you already have the event code, you can skip the first screen by dialling it in one go: *928*24*CODE#, for example *928*24*4521#.
Step by step
- Dial *928*24#. The screen says “Welcome to Edwadzi. Enter event code:”.
- Type the event code from the flyer and send.
- Pick a ticket tier from the list. Each line shows the tier name and its price in Ghana cedis.
- Enter how many tickets you want (1 to 5).
- Check the total, then reply 1 to confirm and pay or 2 to cancel.
- A mobile money payment prompt arrives on your phone. Approve it with your PIN.
- Within a few moments you receive an SMS confirming the purchase and listing your ticket codes.
What arrives on your phone
The confirmation SMS names the event, the tier, and the quantity, and lists a short code for each ticket (for example EDW-7K2P). At the gate, show the SMS or simply give the phone number you bought with; the organizer's check-in tool looks tickets up either way. If you buy for other people, forward them the SMS or read them their code.
If the payment fails or you decline the prompt, you get a separate SMS saying so. Nothing is charged, and the tickets are released for other buyers. Dial again when you are ready.
Common questions
Does USSD cost extra? Your mobile carrier charges a small session fee that varies by network. The ticket price on Edwadzi is the same whether you buy on the web or via USSD.
What if I do not receive the SMS? First check that your inbox is not full. If the ticket does not arrive within a few minutes, contact the event organizer with the phone number you used; Edwadzi keeps a record of every USSD purchase.
Can I buy more than one ticket in a single session? Yes, up to five. Pick the quantity when prompted; the total price adjusts and each ticket gets its own code. Dial again if you need more than five.
What if the code says “No event with code”? Either the code was typed wrongly, or the organizer has not switched USSD sales on for that event. Check the poster and, if it still fails, ask the organizer.
For event organizers
USSD ticket sales are a Pro-tier feature on Edwadzi. Once your account is on Pro, open the event in your dashboard and switch USSD sales on. Edwadzi issues a short numeric code for that event; print it next to *928*24# on your flyers. Turning USSD off and on again issues a new code, so keep it on once posters are out.
